From the Guardian Series, first published Wednesday 24th Oct 2001.
MOULTON Drama Group is preparing to please audiences next week with its latest production, Albert Make Us Laugh, by popular playwright Jimmie Chinn.
Jimmie Chinn is a well established playwright whose West End successes have included A Different Way Home, Straight and Narrow and Home Before Dark.
The action takes place for the most part in Belmont Fields Secondary Modern School in the late 1940s to 1950s, and most of the characters are children, played by adults, as the writer stipulated.
Albert is an apparently backward 11-year-old child and the play explores a range of relationships as it chronicles his passage from young boy to his emergence into early manhood.
The production has been billed as often very funny, often poignant and hopefully audiences will find it a heart-warming experience.
Sue Green, who directed the group's Home Before Dark in 1996, will take the helm once again, directing 16 actors, whose ages in real life range from 18 to 60.
Moulton Drama Group has a reputation for constructing imaginative sets, winning the Guardian Rose Bowl Award for set design in June this year.
And the set for Albert Make Us Laugh has also been cleverly designed to suit the available space on the floor of the hall.
The group will be performing the production at Moulton Village Hall at 7.30pm from Tuesday, October 30 to Saturday, November 3.
Tickets priced £2.50 are available from Moulton village newsagent or ring 01606 594190.
